November has been quite the month of intense internal introspection and transformation. You may have experienced powerful emotions coming to the surface during Scorpio season as the universe invited us to take a deep dive into our unconscious and hold space for any fears or darkness ready to be brought into the light. Now our focus shifts outwards as we enter Sagittarius season. Ruled by the more lighthearted planet of Jupiter, Sagittarius ushers in the themes of higher knowledge, exploration, expansion and inspiration. Yet we still have some turbulent energy ahead. A powerful full moon in Gemini on Monday brings our attention to the mind, illuminating our mental narrative and personal stories. These could be stories that we have absorbed from our environment or adapted from our ancestral lineage: they are the narratives that have inhibited us in some way and which we are now being called to rewrite.
For many years I allowed my life to be dictated by a diverse array of personal stories, ones created to keep me safe but that also distracted me from evolving and stepping with confidence into my life purpose. I told myself for the longest time that I couldn’t make a living as a healer and that I wasn’t cut out to run a business on my own. I grew up in a family of teachers where stability came from a 9-5 (or in my case a 7:30-3:30) job, where you stayed in one career for life and didn’t take risks. As a child I watched my father, an extremely talented and intelligent man, suffer from depression after he lost his job. He never fully recovered from the experience or found his path forward. The narrative that I absorbed through my home environment was was that a profession had to be predictable and safe. That story became my reality as I pursued what I thought was my calling teaching languages. Towards the end of my teaching career I was living what appeared to be the dream life, working in China at one of the top international schools in the world.
Yet the flame of inspiration was gone and had been for a while. I felt stagnant, discontent and stuck. My intuition began to speak more loudly through my external world, a gentle nudge turning into a few forceful pushes until I realized that there only was one answer. I had to do the thing I had feared the most: step outside of my comfort zone and be willing to follow my inspiration without yet knowing the path forward. Interestingly enough, I got the license to open my first business in China during Sagittarius season. Perhaps on an unconscious level I was guided by this cosmic energy of flexibility, adaptability and change. The inner flame began to grow as I tuned into the desire to go bigger, guiding myself to action through the intuitive knowing that I had a deeper purpose, that I was meant to be of service and help in my own authentic and unique way to raise the vibration of the collective consciousness.
The deepest and most powerful catalyst for change, however, came from something quite simple: allowing myself to experience and holding space for my feelings. I wanted to feel happiness, excitement and inspiration as I woke up each day. However, the job towards which I focused most of my energy did not generate any of those emotions. And where you attention goes, your energy flows. In order to manifest a life that was in alignment with my soul’s deepest desires, I had to take responsibility for the reality that I had created and consciously choose to shift my energy from the stories that limited me to the limitless possibilities that I couldn’t yet see.
Over the coming month as we move through Sagittarius season, I invite you to tap into the energy of inspiration. What lights you up? What are you passionate about? Is there something that your intuition has been guiding you towards, an inner flame that you have felt stirring without knowing exactly how it will unfold or where it will lead? Is there a narrative that has been preventing you from moving forward or taking action? Where in your life are you ready to break free?
